The Kiwanis Club of Durango is teaming up with CookManFood.com to celebrate their 8th year of hosting our Independence Day Celebration.
All proceeds for this event will be donated to charities that help the children of La Plata County through the Kiwanis Club of Durango.
Cookmanfood.com is working with the Durango Kiwanas Club to bring you Durango’s 8th Annual BBQ event on the 4th of July 2009. This event is a KC BBQ Society sanctioned event and will start on Saturday the 3rd. 13th and Main St. to 11th. and Main St. will be blocked off until Sunday the 4th. Smokin 4th will be a great place to bring the family during the day leading into the Durango Fireworks display to start just after 9pm.
After being a national qualifer for the BBQ championships last year and given the number of teams that are showing interest already, we are going to cap the number of competitors this year to 42. We do have spots available for other vendors and sponsors.
Smokin 4th will include:
- Live BBQ competition
- BBQ food for purchase
- Beer Garden
- Live Music
- Kids Events
- Vendors representing various products
Kids Games During the Day organized by the Boys and Girls Club of Durango to include:
Potato sack race
3 legged race
Egg and spoon race
Water balloon toss
World Class BBQ and other food
The live BBQ Competition is open to everyone. It would be a great event to showcase your talents.

Buckley Park will have space available if you are a retailer or business owner and would like to have space to showcase your products. If you are interested in having a booth at the event you can download the application here:
Vendor space is available to allow people to sells their goods or promote their business. A standard 10 X 10 space is available on main or in the park. Spaces are first come first serve. If people want additional space or have custom needs please have them contact me at tyoungblood@cookmanfood.com
We expect to see 25,000 people a this event so it is a great opportunity for people to get out in front of a lot of people.

There will be live music at the event from noon until 4pm on the 3rd and from noon until 6pm on the 4th.
KCBS Sanctioned event open to anyone who wishes to enter. Join competitors from across the country for Cash prizes:
Grand Champion $1000.00
Reserve Grand Champion $750.00
1st Place in Each of 4 Categories $500.00
2nd Place in Each of 4 Categories $250.00
3rd Place in Each of 4 Categories $150.00
4th Place in Each of 4 Categories $100.00
5th Place in Each of 4 Categories $75.00
6th Place in Each of 4 Categories $50.00
Entry Includes:
Includes: 20’x 20’ space; entry into 4 KCBS
categories; one 40lb bag of ice;
and electricity (elec. on first come, first served basis—20 amp only)
Barbeque Registration: = $ 175.00
We also need people to volunteer to be judges for this competition. We are planning on offering the KCBS official BBQ Judge certification course on the 2nd or 3rd and the cost will be $40 for KCBS members and $75 for non KCBS memebers.
