What Is Your Favorite Donut?

I am always amazed at what people choose as their first choice in a box of donuts. Just slightly more interesting is what people choose in front of a cabinet or case of donuts. Not sure why exactly it is so interesting to me but it could be the fact that most people choose things that I would not even consider to be in the top 10 of all donuts. Hmmm. Maybe that is a good start to get to the bottom of understanding, a top 10 list of donuts for Dan. I think ultimately there is a connection or personality trait connected to each donut flavor. Surely someone has done this study. I will keep doing research but in the meantime, here is my top 10:

1. Boston Creme
2. Chocolate Covered
3. Chocolate Cake Glazed
4. Strawberry Frosted
5. Glazed
6. French Cruller
7. Maple Frosted
8. Jelly with Granulated Sugar
9. Donut Holes or as I like to call them; donut tic tacs
10. Anything I can dream up or is new and interesting

Having worked in a bakery (Rise N Shine) in my hometown for a few years and lived in the north east where donut establishments are everywhere I have strong opinions about what a donut should taste like. I am not a big fan of Krispy Kreme or anything that comes out of a chain supermarket. Sure they can act as a sort of survival donut cause let’s be honest, crappy donut is still better than no donut but a good donut establishment is something to be cherished. How can blueberry cake be at the top of someone’s list (Sorry Mom) or an “Old Fashioned”? How can a plain cake donut or a Hostess Donut be numero uno? So what is your favorite and why? What is the donut that you jump after given the opportunity? Do you even like donuts (if not, please go to http://www.cookwomanfood.com/ ) or do you prefer a bagel? I would love to hear your thoughts on this as maybe it will help me understand you all a bit better. Finally, for a good time waster, check out this site: https://www.dunkindonuts.com/donut/

I spent over an hour creating new donuts. The problem with this is now I am going to be hungry.

  1. Glazed blueberry cake donut.

After that, a really well-done and perfectly executed apple fritter. Convoluted like all heck and crispy and dark brown. Like this: http://bit.ly/ucAms

    …not this: http://bit.ly/BYcXw

  2. That is the main problem that you have with Krispy Kream. These donuts are heaven when they just come off the cooking line. You have to find a Krispy Kream store with the “Hot Donuts” sign on.

  3. Cream Filled Long Johns. You can not beat these. The longer the better.

  4. Apple fritters, warm, cold, whatever all time best

  5. Yep, apple fritters, especially Tim Hortons!
