Did I mention that I love my cast iron skillet? This is a kitchen essential for anyone wanting to cook some decent ManFood. I use this for just about everything these days. I even leave it out on a burner at all times right next to the teapot (don’t know why I have an F’n teapot up there) . It makes the best bacon, sausage, chicken, and anything else meat. For steak I will usually get the skillet red hot and then sear the steaks with some butter for about a minute on each side. Then I add a few pads of butter and some sea salt on top and put the skillet right in the oven to bring the steaks to 100 or so in the center
Cast Iron is also the number one pan to use to make sawmill gravy for biscuits. Another reason I love it is because it is so easy to clean. This is always a plus or a minus when picking a utensil or kitchen item to use. This could lead into why I hate gadgets but I will save that for another post. Anyhow, above is a picture of the skillet I have. They are pretty cheap and can be bought in a number of places for under $20. If you don’t have one yet, go pick one up and start cooking better.

The hardest thing to do is keeping the skillet seasoned. Getting the pan just right takes many many uses. Once you have the cast iron just right, you’ll never go back to non-stick! I highly recomend LODGE brand if you are buying new but the best pans to get are those that have been family heir looms. The ability of the cast iron to add flavor to the cooking is really indescribable. Collect em’ all!

Hey, that wouldn’t be Grandma’s pan would it? Gotta love cast iron!! Nothing tastes better than food cooked in cast iron, except, maybe eating it outside!
