Is Cuter Better?
Does an animal’s cuteness factor have any direct correlation to how yummy it tastes? There has been much debate of this in the CookManFood community and we are going to get to the bottom of it.
Why does veal taste better than steak sometimes?
Why is lamb better than mutton?
Chinchilla do you say?
We think that there is a direct correlation between looks and taste. I know, the emails are going to start flying in from all directions about animal rights and hunting, and the killing of household pets for checks and balances. I’m kidding. But did you ever really think about how your dinner looks alive?
Yes, cute = good. Cute = yummy. Baby pigs = better bacon.
OK, we all know that any pig product is yummy, and although the live in their own feces, the baby pigs are quite cute. Suckling pig is really good. Kangaroo is also amazing. I have been down under many a time. Actually, it is quite funny, while in the service I was visiting Melbourne and I called my wife to tell her how yummy kangaroo meat was. She yelled at me and said “You can’t eat them, they are too cute.” So, there was only one thing I could do; call her the next day and tell her how much better Koala bear was.
Ahh, bunnies, so cute and so tasty. . Just watching them hop around and play in the fields, you know they have to be good. Plus, for every one you get hunting, they come with a bonus of four free key chains.
We are continually analyzing this topic and just recently were talking about elk and how they are yummy, but not exactly what you’d call attractive. Does a majestic animal have taste traits as well? Elk are pretty damn majestic but also extremely tasty so we think that we may be onto something else. Bald eagle, would be illegal to try because it’s protected. I am not willing to violate federal law to find out but it could be good. Just think, bacon wrapped bald eagle. Hmmmm. Well, I guess we’ll never know.
There is one area in which I really think this theory is totally wrong, seafood. Have you ever seen just how ugly a halibut or salmon is? Though, baby shrimp, cuter than prawns? See what I am getting at?
We know there are always exceptions to the rule as a t-bone steak, pork spare ribs, and turkey are always going to be on the yummy list. They are ugly animals but I will continue to enjoy them despite their lack of cuteness. Either way, this is an ongoing discussion and we are always looking for ideas on this theory.
We are still trying to convince a co-worker to sacrifice his chinchilla for the cause but he is dedicated to his pet. Either way, think about it. I can’t wait to see your comments on this one.
