I think it is safe to say that the eating season has started a bit early this year.  My last seven meals have contained bacon of some sort.  With Hogtoberfest being tomorrow evening, the tapping of our new bacon beer, I thought it was time for a little bacon song to go with it all.  See you tomorrow at 4 at Ska.

I thought this was down right awesome the other day so I had to write a post about it.  A friend sent me this article from wikipedia about the new type of email identification called “bacn”   Apparently it is spam like email that is wanted hence the term “bacn”, better than spam but still not so great for your inbox.  It encompasses emails such as facebook and twitter notifications as well as newsletters that you want to receive.  Here is how wikipedia states it:

Bacn (pronounced “bacon”) is emailwhich has been subscribed to and is therefore not unsolicited, but is often not read by the recipient for a long period of time, if at all. Bacn has been described as “email you want but not right now.”^[1][2]

Bacn differs from spamin that the emails are not unsolicited: the recipient has somehow signed up to receive it. Bacn is also not necessarily sent in bulk. Common examples of bacn messages include news alerts, periodic messages from e-merchants one has made previous purchases with, messages from social networking sites, and wiki watch lists.^[3]

The name bacn is meant to convey the idea that such email is “better than spam, but not as good as a personal email”.^[4]It was originally coined in August 2007 at PodCamp Pittsburgh 2, and since then has become popular amongst the blogging community.^{[citation needed]}

The word has also attracted attention in the professional email marketing community. Commentators have welcomed the distinction from spam and used the term to focus businesses on the need to improve the quality and value (to the recipient) of these kinds of transactional messages

I know this thing has been passed around for years now but it really never gets old.  It was sent to me again the other day and every time I see it I still want one.  Not sure that I like that fact that a bacon oven is made out of wood but what the hell, it is giving me bacon when I wake up.  I would like to see a wh0le line of these: 

1.  Alarm goes off and it pours you a beer
2.  Alarm goes off and you get a shot of tequila (Are you seeing a trend here)
3.  Alarm lights the fire in your smoker
4.  Alarm calls in sick for you to the office – That is sort of brilliant.

May have all of these so I could wake up, do a few shots, cause naturally, every time the alarm goes off afterwards you should get another shot.  Have one call into the office because, if you are like me, you hit the snooze button 10 times before you actually get up.  Then have one start your smoker so you have some food when you wake up.

Sounds like a great plan in theory.  Any other ideas?

Personally, I don’t believe this for a second.  If so, my health is way below what this represents.  I know this one is a little old but another great comic from xkcd.  Thanks Karl for the forward. 

Time to deep fry a turkey

It has been a long time coming but we have a new comic. It fits well with the eating season and the upcoming NFL post season.
